Turning Earth’s Blake Sturcke Joins Steering Committee of Connecticut’s Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee

Turning Earth is proud to announce that Blake Sturcke has joined the Steering Committee of Connecticut’s Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee (“SWMAC”). As the only representative of the organics recycling industry serving on the Steering Committee, Blake will play an important role in shaping the future development of organics recycling in Connecticut. Blake and Turning Earth look forward to this important opportunity to work side by side with Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (“DEEP”) to build organics recycling capacity in Connecticut and set a new standard for organic waste management within the state.

The Connecticut SWMAC assists DEEP in implementing Connecticut’s Solid Waste Management Plan. The Solid Waste Management Plan, adopted in 2006, serves as the basis for Connecticut’s solid waste management, planning and decision making through 2024. In addition to implementation, the SWMAC assists DEEP in identifying emerging issues and solutions and participates in revisions to the Plan as necessary. Turning Earth is proud to join the Host Committee of the 7th Environmental and Clean Energy Inaugural Ball to be held on January 21, 2013. This bi-partisan celebration has become a Washington tradition over the past 24 years as the environmental and clean energy communities gather to welcome a new Administration and make headway towards a more sustainable future. This year, more than 125 companies and organizations in the environmental and clean energy fields will join together to highlight the importance of environmental and clean energy challenges through bi-partisan cooperation. This remarkable coalescing of so many different organizations draws key Members of Congress, key Administration officials from the Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Departments of Energy, Agriculture, Transportation, Commerce, and Interior, key industry representatives, and a range of supporters and interested citizens.

In addition to U. S. Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who will be a Special Honored Guest, Deputy Administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency Robert Perciasepe and Deputy Assistant to President Obama for Climate Change Heather Zichal, will be Special Guests. Also, outgoing EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, and Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabrus are invited guests that hope to join the celebration. 2012 Southeast Food Waste Reduction Conference: Turning Earth’s Blake Sturcke Presents on Role of High Solids Anaerobic Digestion in Food Residuals Management

Danish Renewal Fund Awards Turning Earth & Strategic Partners a DKK 5,992,500 Grant to Expand in North America

Turning Earth and its technology partner, Aikan A/S, along with several other partners, have been awarded a DKK 5,992,500 (approximately $ 1 million) grant from the Danish government Renewal Fund to commercialize the Aikan technology in global markets. The Fornyelsesfonden Green Transition and Business Innovation Grant, “From Waste to Energy and Compost – A New Export Model,” allocates funds to Turning Earth and Aikan A/S for the achievement of major milestones in the commercialization of the Aikan technology in Turning Earth Triple Play facilities in North America.

About Fornyelsesfonden: The Business Innovation Fund provides financial support to large, cross-functional innovation projects within green business and welfare. The aim is to develop innovative commercial products and services that can meet the increasing global demand for green solutions and welfare as well as generate growth in Denmark. As the only fund of its kind in Denmark, the Business Innovation Fund provides grants and guarantees to enterprises that have developed climate- and environment-friendly solutions or welfare solutions ready to be launched in the market.

Amy McCrae Kessler Elected Vice Chair of the American Biogas Council

Amy McCrae Kessler has been elected to serve as Vice Chair of the American Biogas Council (“ABC”) for 2012-2013 by the Council’s Board of Directors. Ms Kessler has served on the Council’s Board of Directors since 2010. Previously a Co-Chair of the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee, Ms. Kessler had the privilege and pleasure of working to develop the ABC’s federal government relations program, building the ABC’s most popular program from the ground up. With her new role at ABC, Ms. Kessler will focus her energies on working with fellow Directors, staff and members to plan for and guide the ABC through its next phase of significant growth.

Turning Earth Presents at Pace Energy & Climate Center Workshop: Turning Local Organic Wastes into Vehicle Fuel – An Environmental and Economic Opportunity for New York State Communities

Turning Earth’s Ted Niblock will present at a Workshop hosted by Energy Vision and Pace Energy and Climate Center at Pace Law School on October 4, 2012. The Workshop, “Turning Local Organic Wastes into Vehicle Fuel: An Environmental and Economic Opportunity for New York State Communities,” will address opportunities and obstacles in the emerging renewable fuel industry. Ted Niblock will discuss source separated organics and anaerobic digestion project development in the morning session. In the afternoon, Ted, who also co-chairs the American Biogas Council’s Federal Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee, will discuss industry efforts to level the playing field for renewable natural gas development through policy and advocacy work at the federal and state levels. New in Sustainability, a website dedicated to sharing “cool innovations and ideas to benefit people, planet and profit,” featured Turning Earth and its Aikan high solids anaerobic digestion (“HSAD”) and in-vessel composting (“IVC”) technology in a two part series about waste to energy. Part I, Waste-to-Energy Plus Compost: Solum & Aikan Technology, looks at Turning Earth’s Aikan Technology which uses a unique three step integrated batch process for HSAD and IVC and provides an elegant, flexible and fully integrated solution to converting organic waste into high quality biogas, heat and compost. The integrated nature of Aikan’s HSAD and IVC processes, which is completely differentiated from any other anaerobic digestion technology on the market, allows for batch processing of organic waste without the need to move the solid waste fraction from the in-vessel module between the anaerobic and aerobic processes.
